And now, here's a chapter I wanted to to do for a long time.

Chapter 9: A Shocking Truth for Sonic

The next morning, at Vicky's house, both Mario and Sonic were having a hard time. The plumber always feared that if Vicky would get her hands on him, she would torture him. This is what was happening at that moment. Luckily for the toys, what she did to them wasn't anything traumatizing... for the most part. At that moment, the teenager took Sonic, put him in a slingshot and launched him to the wall. The hedgehog, fortunately not broken, landed on a nearby desk. Vicky laughed evilly before turning her attention to the plumber. The latter toy was laying on the floor. She took a magnifying glass and put the plumber near the window, where the sunlight was on the floor.

"Alright, mustache guy. Let's see how much you can endure FIRE!" she exclaimed. She concentrated the beam on Mario's forehead. Soon enough, a white hot dorm appeared and started smoldering on said forehead. "Yes! Burn! BURN!"

"Vicky! Pop tarts are served!" exclaimed her mother from the kitchen.

Hearing that, Vicky simply shrugged.

"Heh, I'm hungry anyway."

The teenager put her magnifying glass away before leaving her room. As soon as she left...

"MAMMA MIA!" exclaimed Mario, with his forehead burning.

Quickly, he noticed a bowl of cereal near him. Without wasting any time, the plumber went near it and plunged his head into the milk. Sonic stood up from the desk, shaking his head. The hedgehog jumped on a nearby chair before jumping on the floor. He noticed Mario and came near the plumber. Mario removed his head from the bowl. He sighed in relief from the burning forehead.

"You're okay, plumber?" asked the hedgehog.

"Luckily, I'm-a fine. Just-a hope it won't-a be permanent." he said, pointing to the burn mark on his forehead.

"Don't worry, it'll grow back." assured Sonic. "All we need now is to get out of this place as quickly as possible. You need to get back to your house and I need to stop Eggman."

Mario sighed when he heard that. The hedgehog still thought he was a real hero and not a toy.

"Look, Sonic... I think it's-a time for..." Suddenly, the plumber noticed something about the door... It was opened! "The door! Sonic! Here's-a our chance! Let's-a go!"

"Right!" agreed the hedgehog.

Just as Mario and Sonic were heading towards the door, the mutant toys from last night appeared in front of them.

"Oh, no! Not them again!" groaned Mario.

"Don't worry. I'll handle this!" said Sonic, smirking. The hedgehog jumped in the air and seemed to be about to do something great... but he ended up just struggling and landing back on his feet. Both Mario, the mutant toys and Sonic himself seemed confused. "What the..." he said before trying it again and ending struggling and back on his feet again. "Oh, come on!" he groaned. "I can't do a Homing Attack either? First my super speed is gone, and now my Homing Attack is gone as well! What is going on here?"

Mario sighed once again. He decided it was time for him to handle it. He grabbed Sonic's hand and simply ran through the mutant toys, dodging them while heading at the door.

"Whoo-ooh! Try to get us-a now!" said the plumber while both him and the hedgehog left the room.

As Mario and Sonic made their way towards the nearest stairway, they saw no humans around them and continued running. After going down some of the stairs, they stopped immediately when they noticed Doidle sleeping in the middle of the stairway. Discreetly, both toys walked back up the stairs, making sure they weren't waking up the dog. When they were back at the top of the stairway, they went near the corner of a wall and sighed in relief.

"One noise and we would have become dog food." said Sonic.

"So... What do we do now?" asked the plumber.

After taking a look at the sleeping dog in the middle of the stairway, the hedgehog quickly ran through the other side of the stairs' opening, near the iron railing. At that moment, Mario thought Sonic did something too risky, something that would have waken up Doidle. Fortunately, Doidle was still sleeping. The hedgehog motioned the plumber to join him. Mario sighed before crawling on the floor, making sure the dog wouldn't see him if he opened his eyes. As he was near Sonic, the plumber thought everything was safe. Unfortunately, as he stood up, the cord on his back was caught on one of the curls from the iron railing. Not noticing what was happening to his cord, Mario walked a bit, stretching the cord until it snapped off the railing and came back to his back, activating the voice box.

"Mamma Mia! Whoo-ooh!" exclaimed the voice box.

Both Mario and Sonic gasped in shock as what they feared would happen was happening: Doidle woke up! Suddenly, he notice both toys near the iron railing. Growling, the dog started chasing both of them.

"Let's split up!" both toys said at once. They were both surprised to say the same thing before shrugging and splitting up.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The dog first chased after Mario. The latter quickly went to one door, which happened to be the closet. As fast as he could, the plumber closed the door, protecting himself from the dog. Doidle barked and growled at the door. After a while, he then gave up, thinking the plumber wasn't worth it. He decided to chase the hedgehog instead. Meanwhile, Sonic went inside another room. He rested his back against the door. Soon enough, Doidle went near that same door. As the dog took a peek, the hedgehog hoped he wouldn't notice him. Fortunately, all the dog saw was just a man sleeping on a nearby couch, with the TV on. That man was Vicky and Tootie's father. Seeing no sign of the hedgehog, Doidle decided to leave, going down the stairs. Sonic sighed in relief.

"That was close." he said.

The hedgehog was about to leave when suddenly...

"Station Square is in trouble!"

"Huh?" said the hedgehog.

He turned around and saw the TV, which was still on. There was a picture of a city he was familiar with, Station Square itself.

"Dr. Eggman's robotic army is invading this great city! The doctor is starting the Eggman Empire!" said an announcer.

"No way!" exclaimed Sonic. "I must hurry and stop him before it's too late!" he exclaimed as he was about to leave the room and going back to his planet as fast as he can.

Before he could leave the room, he heard another voice...

"Fear not, citizens! Sonic the Hedgehog is here to save the day!" said the announcer.

"Wait, what?"

The hedgehog turned around and looked back at the TV. He saw a human hand holding a Sonic toy that was just like him, along with the same jet pack on his back. It was obviously a toy commercial, but Sonic was confused. Someone made a toy based on him?

"Hey, kids! Here's a new toy based on everyone's favorite video game hero!" said the announcer.

Sonic was even more confused. Whoever this announcer is just referred to him as a video game hero. However, to Sonic, he was a real hero, not a video game one. Unless someone made a video game based on his adventures, this made no sense at all.

"This toy has his own catchphrases, which can be heard by pushing his buttons!" continued the announcer.

A kid was then shown pushing one of the buttons on the toy's chest, which activated a voice box from inside the toy, saying "You're too slow!"

Sonic then realized something. Those buttons looked a lot like the buttons on HIS chest. Sonic pushed one of the buttons on his chest, which also said "You're too slow!" The hedgehog was shocked as he started to realize something that couldn't be possible to him. He was a toy? If it was the case, the buttons on his chest started to make sense to him. But still, him? A toy?

"But wait! The best part is this brand new jet pack on his back, just like the one from the recent hit game "Sonic Adventure 3"!" said the announcer. "Yep! It has the wings included!"

The same kid was shown again, pushing the button on the jet pack, making the wings coming out of the jet pack. The Sonic toy, with his wings on, was shown flying in the air, shouting "Way past cool!" from the voice box. A disclaimer was then shown below the toy. The disclaimer said "This toy does not fly, nor it can run at super-speed."

Sonic looked at the jet pack on his own back. The jet pack on the TV looked the same as his own. The hedgehog still looked in shock at the TV.

"Get your own Sonic the Hedgehog toy, now with a jet pack with wings! It's in every toy store, but especially in every Jack Spicer's Toy Castle near your house! What are you waiting for? Get your own Sonic the Hedgehog toy today!" concluded the announcer.

As the commercial ended, Sonic had no idea what to think. He was a toy? How was it possible? He always thought he was a hedgehog who was always there to help others in trouble, becoming a hero by doing so. But now, he had some doubts. As he crossed his arms, he felt something under his right arm. Looking under it, he noticed the word 'Sega' written on that arm. What was Sega? Why was it written under his arm? Sonic then realized something. If he was a toy, then Sega must be the company that created him. If it was the case, then what he feared was true. He was a toy. Nothing but just a toy. Facing with this fact, Sonic looked down, depressed to know his true nature. He still couldn't believe it, but it was true.

Voice off-screen: Out among the stars, I sail

Way beyond the moon

In my silver ship, I sail

A dream that ended too soon

The hedgehog exited the room, as he was still looking down and depressed. He stopped near the iron railing, looking at the open window above the stairway.

Now I know exactly who I am

And what I'm here for

Looking at the window, Sonic thought everything was over. He remembered when Mario kept telling him he was just a toy and couldn't fly. If he was a toy, that meant he would never be able to fly, nor would he ever be able to run at super-speed like he used to. Plus, he wouldn't be able to do a Homing Attack or any other abilities he was well-known for. In fact, being a toy means he NEVER did any of those things before. The hedgehog sighed, resting his head against the railing.

And I will go sailing no more

However, Sonic looked back at the window. Was he really going to believe all of that? To him, there was no way he was a toy. Sonic wasn't going to let that keep him in a bad mood. He thought there must be a way to prove he wasn't a toy. With determination on his face, he started climbing up the railing, arriving at the top some seconds later. The hedgehog pushed the button that caused his wings to come out of the jet pack and still looked at the window.

But no, it can't be true

I could fly if I wanted to

Like a bird in the sky

If I believed I could fly

Why I'd fly

Readying himself to fly towards the window, Sonic was excited to prove to himself he wasn't a toy, smirking to himself.

"Way past cool!" he exclaimed as he was leaping towards the window.

For a second, he thought he was going to make it. Then, his jaw dropped as he realized he was falling towards the stairs. The hedgehog fell on one stair, bounced off to some others before landing on the floor down below. Despite that, he wasn't ready to give up about proving he wasn't a toy. Unfortunately, he saw something he never thought he would see: his left arm was separated from the rest of his body, laying near said body. The strangest thing is there was no blood appearing. Also, even though he felt some pain from his arm being removed, Sonic didn't feel enough pain to scream. Putting 2 and 2 together, he sighed of sadness when he realized there was nothing to prove. He was just a toy made of plastic, end of story.

Voice off-screen: Clearly I will go sailing

No more

Despite being depressed, Sonic still went into toy mode when he heard a human coming.

"Mom! Have you seen my doll?" asked Tootie to her mother, who was in another room.

Suddenly, Tootie stepped on the hedgehog. Noticing that, the young girl grabbed both the toy and his arm, holding both in her hands.

"You said something, Tootie?" asked her mother.

"Hum... Forget about it." she said, smiling at the hedgehog. It looked like she got a new toy...

End of chapter.

That was one of my favorite scenes in the movie. Such a sad scene, but also a great one. I think I did a good job with it. Well, I hope so. Anyway, next time will be the window scene with the rest of Bart's toys, but you already know that, of course.

"Sonic Adventure 3" is a game that doesn't exist, but I thought to myself "Heh, why not doing a nod to the Sonic Adventure games by mentioning a fictional third entry? That would be nice."
